The São Paulo carnival parades may not have Rio's reputation and popularity, but it's still a huge party where 350 thousand Brazilian visitors come to dance every year to the sound of São Paulo's drums. And with a big plus: the tickets are cheaper!
Just like in Rio, the parade is a competition between the city samba schools for the much-coveted samba award and the hole thing is broadcast live to all Brazilian states.
For those in São Paulo in the months leading up to Carnaval, there is the opportunity to watch the samba schools as they prepare and rehearse for the parade. The rehearsals usually happen once a week from Sept/Oct until Carnaval in March.
