Foz do Iguassu is fortunate in having various rivers, the most important being the Iguassu river and the Parana river, which offer inhabitants and visitors alike good opportunities for fishing.
Apart from the spawning time (1st November until 1st February) sport fishing attracts many people. In the river Paraná fishermen can catch pacu, dourado and pintado weighing up to 10 kg.
Every year the fishing community celebrates the international open dourado fishing competition. At the same time an important gastronomical festival takes place: the competition of the roast dourado, which is a typical local delicacy.
