Society Foreign debts
In addition to the traditional political structures, many non-governmental organizations in Brazil dedicate themselves to issues such as the environment and human rights.   Brazil has long been saddled with large foreign debts, and has been vulnerable to external crises throughout the last decade, but the stabilization of the currency and rapid growth of exports have significantly improved the future prospects.

Political Institutions
Economy
Brazil's first Constitution under the Republic (1891) established a presidential system and three independent powers: Executive, Legislative, and Judiciary. Brazil is a federative republic composed of 26 States and one Federal District where Brasília, the capital of the country, is situated. Voting is compulsory.   Brazil´s economy has traditionally been based on the export of natural resources and agriculture. Recent years have brought a significant increase in exports with major successes in beef and chicken, soya beans and even aircraft (not to mention soccer players!). New discoveries of oil reserves mean that Brazil will soon be self-sufficient.

Agriculture
Brazil as a market
Brazilian agriculture is one of the most strategic economic sectors for the consolidation of the economic stabilisation programme, which started with the Real Plan in 1994.   Brazil is the ninth largest economy in the world in Buying Power with a PPP of over US$ 1 trillion. It is expected to be 5th in a couple of years.
